another birthday supper

in February we had the opportunity to host a lovely gal and her friends for a birthday supper, and we were fortunate enough to have another opportunity, this time for the illustrious Shayne Wheeler. Carrie invited 10 close friends and created a fantastic setting for a Sunday evening birthday supper.

the menu took on a bit of a Spanish feel, starting with roasted asparagus wrapped in Serrano ham, with cantaloupe and a lemon-olive oil drizzle. for the second course, we prepared fried eggs, tomato, and chorizo bruschettas with a red pepper aioli. our main was a hangar steak with a chimichurri sauce on a bed of potato-cauliflower puree, accompanied by a mango-cherry tomato-green pepper skewer.

knowing Shayne's a great beer lover, we prepared a cheese plate of manchego cheese with agave nectar and black walnuts (Allagash Curieux) as well as a blue with dried figs (Trois Pistoles).

and finally, for dessert we finished with sauteed bananas over a brown sugar oatmeal shortbread, with Morelli's salted caramel ice cream and bourbon caramel drizzle.

the abundant table returns!!!

join us for this month's supper on Saturday, February 5th, at 7 PM.  we've rested up over the holidays and now we're excited to bring more supper club action to you in less than two weeks! 

the menu will be as follows:

spinach, fennel, and leek soup with red pepper yogurt
arugula, roasted beet, walnuts, and gorgonzola salad
roasted duck with fig jus, caramelized onion whipped potatoes, greens
cheddar-green chile-apple pie 


a donation of $30 will be requested to cover the cost of the meal.

come to the abundant table pumpkin patch! one night only!

join us for this month's supper on Saturday, October 30th, at 7 PM. we won't really have a pumpkin patch, so leave the kids at home, but pumpkin will be on the menu, beer will be back (Pumpkin, of course), and best of all, this supper can be enjoyed for a mere $20!
planning to head to a costume party that evening?? so are we, so don't be deterred! as this will be our first casual supper, courses will be simpler, the tempo will be less formal, and the relaxed atmosphere will only be enhanced by your arrival in costume (not required).
one final note: for the vegetarians (or pescatarians) out there, we will gladly substitute a vegetarian burger if you are inclined to join.
the menu will be as follows:

arugula and fennel salad, pumpkin seeds, Boursin cheese, apple cider vinaigrette
PRIMI: pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, sage and walnut pesto
SECONDI: savory, pressed chicken burger, roasted red pepper, creamy aioli
and pan-fried eggplant, zucchini, and sweet potato frites
roasted sweet potato and pumpkin suspension with sweetened, whipped marscapone

once again, we neglected to take photos last night so no visuals to share. but the supper was a success! this supper took a slightly different course, with beer instead of wine pairings, and we were actually able to sit with our guests rather than the usual eating from the kitchen between courses.

in other news, we now have a Facebook page that you can "like" and which we'll use to share updates about future suppers, etc.

the abundant table does oktoberfest!

which means our next supper will be a BEER supper.  hip hip hooray!

just a quick wrap-up on our 2nd supper. we had 7 great guests and an enjoyable evening. unfortunately, we neglected to bring a camera so we don't have photos of the dishes or our guests. but we promise to do better next time so we can create a photo catalog of our suppers.

look for a new menu to come out sometime later this week!

join the club

last month we held our first supper for 8 adventurous folks who were good-hearted enough to give our supper club experiment a try.  the evening was great all around--the weather was pleasant, the food tasty, and our guests gracious.  we received enough praise to keep our heads up and lots of great suggestions for improving future suppers.  needless to say, we've decided to continue our little experiment and will be hosting under a new name for our August supper: the abundant table, an equal opportunity supper club.  check out the menu below!

a couple of items to note about our suppers:
- we (the 3 chefs) will organize, host, prepare, and serve each supper; there's no expectation that guests will host a future supper.  the only thing we ask in return is a donation to cover the cost of the meal, determined by the menu and the ingredients used
- suppers will be held on the last saturday of each month.  in months where holidays or other events conflict, we will schedule the supper for the preceding or following weekend
- suppers are limited to the first 8 to RSVP; in the event that we have fewer than 6 guests, we will postpone the supper to another day
- for a typical supper, we will request a donation of $30; however as we vary the menu and theme of each supper, the donation may be higher or lower than the $30 average
- we are an equal opportunity supper club: anyone is welcome to attend a supper and we hope our guests will enjoy the experience enough to encourage their friends to join!  if you'd like to be added to our email list, simply email us at theabundanttableatl@gmail.com
